Active Warrants in Colfax County
People say "active" or "outstanding" when a warrant looks unresolved. Those words are shorthand. Only the issuing court, checking its docket and the law-enforcement entry behind it, can confirm the real status in Colfax County. The sheriff's official page posts a phone and agency contact, yet the office publishes no public warrant list, name search, most-wanted roster, update timestamp, or county count. Courts here still issue warrants, of course. The Eighth Judicial District, the Raton and Springer Magistrate Courts, and five municipal courts each run their own case lanes in Colfax County. A city court may hold a warrant the county sheriff page never shows.
How the Colfax List Works
Colfax County has no live countywide warrant database to search. Case Lookup is a case tool, not a warrant roster, and dockets list hearings rather than every open warrant. A name missing from either is not proof no warrant exists. Start with the official Case Lookup for a lead. Read the court and case type, then ask the issuing clerk about status. Municipal result? Use the named city clerk. State traffic or misdemeanor work belongs to Raton or Springer Magistrate Court. The sheriff is a secondary operational route.
Note: Colfax County publishes no official update schedule for warrant status, so a served or canceled entry may not change on any predictable public timeline.
What an Active Warrant Shows
Even with no public roster in Colfax County, New Mexico forms and the AOC FTA workflow show which fields matter. A warrant packet can carry the court, case reference, trigger, bond or payment, execution range, and return. Some sensitive fields stay in the form and out of public view.
| Issuing court | District, magistrate, or municipal court that generated the process. |
|---|---|
| Case number | Primary cross-reference for a precise court call or IPRA request. |
| Trigger | FTA, subpoena, release condition, contempt, failure to pay, probation, or another stated condition. |
| Bond | Case-specific amount or form field, not a countywide schedule. |
| Status | Issued, served, canceled, surrender, returned unserved, issued in error, or booking notice may occur in the workflow. |
| Return | Service, arrest, payment, cancellation, removal, or correction record. |
Issued Is Not Always Served
The AOC FTA SOP lays out a warrant's life cycle. A judge signs the FTA warrant, the system receives it, service may or may not occur, and later court action can cancel, surrender, correct, or return it. "Issued" and "served" answer different questions. A public case display can also lag an internal update. The SOP includes "FTA Warrant Returned Unserved," covering warrants returned without service, perhaps for missing identifiers or another correction issue. It also defines "FTA Warrant Issued in Error" and "FTA Warrant Served on Booking Notice." Ask the Colfax County clerk which docket or workflow label applies.

The DPS clearinghouse marks an authorized internal system boundary, not a public Colfax County name search.
Most-Wanted Lists and Roundups
Colfax County posts no official most-wanted roster, reward notice, tip form, roundup calendar, or amnesty event. The sheriff's citizen-reporting link is not a warrant list either. U.S. Marshals material is a separate federal program, not a county roster.
Key point: There is no official Colfax roster to mirror here. Use the Colfax Sheriff contact, Case Lookup, and the issuing court instead.
Skip any copied list of names, photos, warrant numbers, or neighborhoods. The useful part for Colfax County readers is the route to each source and what that source does not publish.
When One Court Has the Record
Court level decides where the record lives in Colfax County. A state case can sit in Case Lookup while the answer waits at a city clerk, and a municipal matter may never show fully online. Compare your citation with the result. Raton Municipal Court handles city matters at 224 Savage Avenue, phone 575-445-8077. Raton Magistrate Court runs a separate state lane at 1413 S. Second Street, 575-445-2220. Call Springer before you drive. Its official pages list two different magistrate addresses. For Angel Fire, Cimarron, and Eagle Nest, the municipal court contact list is the better route. The county clerk does not keep these criminal files.
Federal Records Are Separate
Federal matters sit outside Colfax County's state Case Lookup. The District of New Mexico is the federal entry point. PACER handles ordinary case searching through an account, and McVCIS gives limited case information by phone. The U.S. Marshals District of New Mexico runs federal fugitive work with its own public tip route. A federal no-result clears nothing at the county level, and the Colfax County sheriff is not the federal warrant custodian. Keep federal party names and case numbers in the official system. The federal court source and PACER access rules explain the boundary.
If Your Name Is on a List
With no official Colfax County roster, confirm any claim through the issuing court. Ask whether an active warrant exists, what triggered it, whether a bond or appearance is required, and whether a cancellation record exists. The sheriff can route you, but the clerk confirms the court file.
Important: Confirm the issuing court and ask about counsel before appearing, surrendering, paying, or relying on a third-party status label.
After you pay, appear, surrender, or get a warrant canceled, use Colfax County next steps for the records to request.
Request Status, Not a New Roster
The New Mexico Courts IPRA form works best when the request stays narrow. Name the court and department. Add a case number if you have one, plus a date or date range. Then list the records you want: the warrant, complaint or affidavit, a docket entry, a service return, a bond record, a cancellation order, or a removal notation. A blanket demand for all active warrants in Colfax County goes beyond what the form is built to do, so it rarely serves you well. Rule 1-079 NMRA and related court rules keep some material closed, including sealed, juvenile, protected, and family-violence records. The sheriff may follow different rules for law-enforcement files. Before sending anything, ask the office that actually holds the record.
Confirm the Source and Date
Colfax County publishes no annual warrant-count dashboard, so treat any figure you find with care. Angel Fire did publish a July 2024 public safety recap with dated totals for warrants generated, arrests, and citations. Those are village numbers, though, not a county count and not a live warrant list. Eighth District dockets and CJCC minutes track court coordination, not open-warrant volume.
Note: Attach the source date to any Colfax County result, and call the issuing court when current warrant status matters.
